Halloween is one of our favorite times of year! From spooky decorations to creative costumes, we love seeing children’s faces light up as they collect candy. While it’s a night of fun, it’s also important to keep safety top of mind. A little preparation can make the evening enjoyable for everyone.
Plan to trick-or-treat before it gets too dark and stick to well-lit neighborhoods. Parents and drivers — stay alert! There will be many excited little ghosts and superheroes darting across streets. Slow down and watch carefully for pedestrians.
Always trick-or-treat with a partner or group. Make sure a parent or guardian knows your route and set a time to check in. Consider giving kids glow sticks or reflective tape to make them easier to see.
Before eating any candy, check that wrappers are sealed and nothing looks tampered with. When in doubt, throw it out.
Costume Safety: Choose costumes that fit well and aren’t tripping hazards. Add reflective strips or carry a flashlight.
Crossing Streets: Always use crosswalks and look both ways before crossing. Avoid running between parked cars.
Pet Safety: Keep pets inside and away from the front door to avoid escapes or stress from trick-or-treaters.
